My Experience Reviewing My Peer's Lesson Plans
As we deep dive into Unit and Lesson Planning, it can feel really intimidating and overwhelming. When I first started my unit plan, I sat and stared at a blank word document for about 20 minutes before I a single thing. Having the opportunity to peer review these plans was not only beneficial for my peers but for myself. Checking out the work my peers developed allowed me help myself to new ideas and them with parts they might have missed.
How It Helped Me
I think the biggest way this peer reviewing activity helped me was that it allowed me to compare my plan to my peers' to see what I missed. Having never had created a unit plan before I was unsure how to piece some of the pieces together. Being able to see examples of people in the same boat as me was really helpful in helping me make those connections. Additionally, my peers pointed out that I missed the inclusion of certain requirements such as FFA/SAE integration and potential careers.
How It Helped My Peers
I think the biggest way this review helped my peers was that it gave them more examples of unit plans. I think seeing all these examples allowed them to sift through different ideas that might work better for them. Further, I tried to give specific review points to my peers that they could easily incorporate into their plan. Something I noticed that myself and both my peers "missed the mark on" would probably be the assessment aspect of the plan. I know personally, my assessment grading section was weak because I was still unsure of what formative assessments to include in my unit. I think the biggest way to fix this would just be further planning.
