Fall 2021 Week 4 Investment

3 Questions for Week 4

For my future students

  • What do you want from your education?
    • Listening to the "I'm 17" TedTalk, I was reminded of what it was like to be a student in high school; my entire education was prescribed to me, excluding electives. Honestly, I never even considered this question myself. Ultimately, I think this shows that I had an overall disinterest in the "learning" aspect of my education, seeing school simply as something I had to do. I think that taking the time to consider/ask what my students want allows them active involvement in their education, preventing the disinterest I experienced in school. While obviously I can't do everything my students want, making them apart of the curriculum is essential.

For my cooperating teacher

  • How do you involve student opinion in your teaching?
    • Relating back to my previous question, as an educator I want to use student opinion/feedback to fuel my classroom development. What are some ways you include things your students want in your classroom? How do you find the balance between doing what you have to do and what your students are interested in?

For my cohort

  • How can I make you feel like you matter?
    • Listening to the "You Matter" TedTalk I was really moved by the power of these two words. As we develop into a more closely knit cohort I really want to make all members feel valid and valued. Understanding and seeing one another not only helps us professionally but personally, as it allows for meaningful personal connection. That being said, How can I make you feel like you matter? Personally, I find myself often suffering from Imposter Syndrome so verbal validation can be challenging for me. Essentially, I want to know how I can support my teammates in a way that works for them.

  1. Great read and good for you mentioning imposter syndrome. It's real, and something we all have to deal with. Curious to hear about what your peers recommend and what you want to bring into your student teaching experience as a tool to combat it.
