What would a blog be without a little introduction?

Hi, My name is Nell Barbour and I'm from Lycoming county, more specifically Williamsport, PA. Over the next year and a half, I will be using this blog to recount my experiences as I complete my degree in Agricultural and Extension Education (AEE) at Penn State. I grew up on a small family beef farm where my initial appreciation for agriculture developed. Further, I was fortunate enough to be able to ride and show horses personally and for a local breeder. Many of the most formational experiences I had as a kid were a product of my family's farm. Unfortunately, Williamsport Area School district is not well know for their agricultural which allowed me to explore other passions such as ballet, theater, and cross country running. It wasn't until I attended a program called
The Pennsylvania School For Excellence in the Agricultural Sciences (PSEAS) my junior year of high school that I began to explore an Agricultural related career.

I applied to Penn State for Agriculture before ultimately finding AEE. Penn State has thus far been a wonderful experience, providing new insight about Agriculture, the world and myself in general. Despite the Covid restrictions, I enjoy working out, hiking, and hanging out with my roommates. For me, my friends and family are the most important and inspirational things. Without their constant encouragement and support, I would be personally and professionally lost.
Attending a more urban high school with a failing Ag program made me realize both how disconnected the general public is with their food and how important it is for agricultural education to be accessible to ALL audiences, not just those who grew up with it. As I move forward in my college career, I try to keep this in mind. I'm exciting for this journey that is starting to take off and hope you enjoy following along!
